The Ewshot Riding Club Constitution

1. TITLE The club shall be known as Ewshot Riding Club.

2. OBJECTS The objects of the club shall be:

(a) To encourage riding as a sport and recreation; to improve the standard of riding and horse-mastership and promote good fellowship amongst other riders and lovers of horses.

(b) To organise instructional meetings, lectures, competitive events and other activities.

(c) To concern itself with any object which will benefit the horse and horseman in the district.

(d) To be affiliated to the British Horse Society and co-operate in any way with other affiliated clubs.

3. MEMBERSHIP To consist of persons who have reached the age of 17 years, having been elected by the Committee, having paid the appropriate subscription for the current period. Anyone wishing to be come a member should be proposed by a member and their name forwarded to the Hon. Secretary to be submitted to the Committee. The Committee shall have the power to accept or reject any proposed member without giving any reason.

4. SUBSCRIPTION The annual subscription shall be Riding Members £18.00 Non-Riding Members £5.00, subject to revision by the Committee. Temporary and reduced subscription may be arranged at the discretion of the Committee. All subscriptions to be payable on 1st November of each year.

5. POWER OF The Committee may expel any member guilty of conduct prejudicial to the EXPULSION interests of the Club or who has knowingly disobeyed the Club Rules.

6. ADMINISTRATION (a) All power of management shall be vested in a Committee, consisting of: Chairman, Hon. Secretary, Hon Treasurer, and 6 other members. Four shall form a quorum.

(b) At the Annual General Meeting each year, one third of the members shall retire, the members to retire being those who have been longest in office and between those who have been in office for the same length of time. The members to retire shall be decided by lot. Retiring members shall be eligible for re-election.

(c) The Chairman, Hon. Secretary and Hon. Treasurer shall be elected at the Annual General Meeting each year. The Committee may also appoint annually a President and a Vice President.

(d) The decision of the Committee shall be final unless over-ruled at a General Meeting.

(e) The Committee may formulate bye-laws for the detailed running of the Club, and select sub-committees for any special activities of the Club, authorised by the Committee.

(f) The Committee shall have the power to fill any casual vacancy arising amongst members of the Committee, but any person so co-opted will remain in office only until the next following Annual General Meeting and shall be eligible for re-election.

7. The Financial year of the club shall commence on the 1st November each year.

8. The Annual General Meeting shall be held in the month of October each year to transact the following business:-

(a) To receive and, if approved, to adopt a Statement of the Clubs accounts to the end of the preceding year.

(b) To fill vacancies on the Committee.

(c) To appoint an Auditor.Copied from original by Annette Bell

(d) To deal with any matter which the Committee may desire to bring before the members, and to receive suggestions from the members for consideration by the Committee. Notice convening the meeting should be sent to members not less than 21 days before the date of the meeting, and it should specify the matters to be dealt with.

9 A Special General Meeting may be called by the Committee if requested in writing by not less than 5 members.

10 The accounts of the Club shall be audited each year by the person appointed at the previous Annual General Meeting.

11 These Rules may be added to, repealed or amended by resolution at any Annual or Special General Meeting if considered by at least two thirds of members present, and if prior notice has been sent to all members stating the proposed amendment.

12 The Club, its Committee or persons acting on their behalf shall not be held responsible for any accident or injury to any person, animal or property howsoever caused.

13    Members shall be correctly turned out at all mounted club events.. Hard hats must be worn to at least the minimum standard with harness properly adjusted and fastened. Hats marked EN1384, PASO15:1998, ASTM F1163, BSEN14572:2005 OR SEI. American standard SNELL E2001, ASTM 95, SNZ3838 1998.  Skullcap hats must be worn with a silk.

14.     In the event of the Club's disbandment, the Committee shall vote to agree on a charity(s) to receive the club assets and funds after a period of three years.
