The Ewshot Riding Club Constitution

1) TITLE    The club shall be known as Ewshot Riding Club

2) OBJECTS    The objects of the club shall be:

a)     To encourage riding as a sport and recreation; to improve the standard of riding and horse-mastership and promote good fellowship amongst other riders and lovers of horses

b)     To organise instructional events, lectures, competitive events and other activities.

c)     To concern itself with any object which will benefit the horse and horseman in the district.

d)     To be affiliated to the British Horse Society and co-operate with other affiliated clubs.

3) MEMBERSHIP To consist of people who have reached the age of 18 years, having paid the appropriate subscription for the current period.

Junior membership will consist of people aged 17 and under with no lower age limit. The Committee shall have the power to accept or reject membership applications without giving any reason.

4) SUBSCRIPTION The annual subscription shall be £28 for those members aged 18 years or over and £22 for those members aged 17 years and under, subject to revision by the Committee. Temporary and reduced subscriptions may be arranged at the discretion of the Committee. All subscriptions to be payable on 1st January of each year. Reminders will only be made via social media. Any member joining the club on or after 1st December shall be deemed to have paid his or her subscription for the ensuing year. PayPal payments will be accepted, subject to £1.50 administration fee.  

5) POWER OF EXPULSION The Committee may expel any member found guilty of conduct prejudicial to the interests of the Club or who has knowingly disobeyed or broken the Club rules.   

6) ADMINISTRATION

a) All power of management shall be vested in a Committee, consisting of Chairman, Hon. Secretary, Hon. Treasurer and 5 other members. Four shall form a Quorum.

b) At the AGM each year, one quarter of the members shall retire. The members to retire being those who have been longest in office and between those who have been in office for the same length of time. The members to retire shall be decided in advance .Retiring members will be eligible for re-election.

C) The decision of the Committee shall be final unless over-ruled at a General meeting. The Committee shall be the sole authority for the interpretation of the rules and for anything relating to the club not provided therein and their decision shall be final and binding on the members.

d) The Committee may formulate by-laws for the detailed running of the Club select sub-committees for any special activities of the Club authorised by the Committee.

e) The Committee shall have the power to fill any casual vacancy arising amongst members of the Committee, but any person so co-opted will remain in office only until the next following AGM and then shall be eligible for re-election.

7) The Financial year. The financial year of the Club shall commence on January 1st each year.

8) AGM The AGM shall be held in January/February each year to transact the following business.

a) To receive and adopt a statement of the Clubs accounts to the end of the preceding year.

b) To fill vacancies on the Committee

c) To deal with any matter which the Committee may desire to bring before the members and to receive suggestions from the members for consideration by the Committee. Notice convening the meeting shall be made via Website and social media not less than 14 days before the date of the meeting.

9) A SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING may be called by the Committee or if requested, in writing, by not less than 5 members specifying the business to be discussed.

10) THE RULES may be added to, repealed or amended by resolution at any Annual or Special General Meeting if considered by at least two thirds of members present and if notice has been given to members stating the proposed amendment(s).

11) THE CLUB, it’s Committee or persons acting on their behalf shall not be held responsible for any accident or injury to any person, animal or property howsoever caused.

12) THE CORRECT ATTIRE and protective clothing shall be worn by all competitors at mounted Club Events. The list of correct attire shall be made available on the Club Website. Hard Hats must be worn AT ALL TIMES WHILST MOUNTED. Hats must conform to current BRC guidelines as stated on their Website and in the current issue of the BRC Rulebook. It is the rider’s responsibility to ensure their safety wear is correct and within said guidelines.

13) ALL SURPLUS INCOME or profits from events are to be reinvested in the Club.

14) CLUB DISBANDMENT In the event of the Club disbanding, the Committee shall vote to agree on a charity (s) to receive the Club assets and funds after a period of 6 months.
